I officially have a LOVE/HATE relationship with wallpaper right now. So our new/old house had/has wallpaper in the living room that not everyone was in love with... I guess. I kinda of thought it was a good fit for the "Grandmillennial Style" I might be going for in the new/old house. But never-the-less, I was okay with it coming down and then we just paint the walls a nice grey color. But that turned out to be the problem... it would NOT come down! Sooooooo to make a LONG, ARDUOUS story even longer, let me tell you what happened... Before we even moved into the new house, a.k.a. The Marathon Move, I thought I would spend A DAY cleaning and then take down the wallpaper and paint everything... Little did I know things would NOT go that way. I spent a WEEK cleaning and we tried and tried to get the wallpaper down, but it was just a disaster. It was not coming off well at all. And I have done this before! I had a steamer, we tried the downy method, we used every tool we could find.... It was just BAD, BAD, BAD!
Trying the Blue Moroccan Paper I just really wasn't 100% sure what this new house wanted. So I had to listen for a bit... I think listening means spending some time just living in your house before you make major changes, so you can get a feel for the house. I am also one for having the style of my house sort of match the setting of my house. My last house overlooked a beautiful lake and although it was in town it had tons of trees and a nice woodsy feel, so the style I brought to that house reflected beautiful nature inspired things I love like trees, birds, and flowers. This new/old house is located in a much more urban setting. So I am feeling more of that uptown "artsy-fartsy*" style for this house. And we live very close to the airport so I feel this world traveler vibe (okay that is a total lie, I just WANT to feel the world traveler vibe and so I am using the airport as an excuse! It sounds good though right!) I do know one thing... classic blue is going to be in my color palette. My sig*, is down on the grey house look and likes lots of color. I did have a lot of turquoise/teal blue in my last house and although I love turquoise I am a little tired of it, so I am exploring some other blue options... Plus I have to figure out how to incorporate some of the sig's stuff into the house too because well he does live here too. Okay, so I found this great navy blue Moroccan (world traveler!) style wallpaper I loved, so I spent a small fortune and had it delivered to my house. (My carbon footprint is getting huge lately with everything I have had delivered... I blame COVID!) From far away it maybe doesn't look that bad but let me tell you... this looked horrible and this was HORRIBLE to try to put up!!! First of all the walls are so not straight and trying to match the pattern was awful and I kept messing it up. About this far in I got super mad and tore it all off and crumpled it up and in the garbage it went! (I still have six other roles though, and what happened to those? Well that is a story for another time. ) So I decided I need to find a paper that did not have a strong pattern. The paper I found kind of reminds me of an old plaster wall... It has a pattern but not an obvious one which made it much easier to put up and didn't make the crooked walls super obvious. It's very subtle and I think the pictures I hang in the living room are going to look better too. You may have noticed... the bottom half of the walls still need to be finished with something. I would love some kind of paneling. But I don't have the patience for getting that done right now... I NEED to get this house sort of organized and put together, so I can get the boxes GONE! So what did I do??? I ordered another wallpaper! WHAT? It's temporarily/forever so no worries right! So stayed tuned for the BIG REVEAL! I am very close to getting this room put together and it will make me sooooo happy! We will be one step closer to reaching those first two goals. Oy Vey have we got work to do! P.S. I sucked at getting any new stuff in the shop for March, but Nicole and I work on the 27th and I plan to bring in a HUGE haul! So if you get a chance and you're in the area, check out our booth The Reincarnated Rabbit at Now and Again in Buffalo, MN. P.S.S. Hey sissy... did you catch what I did with that title?! 😉😉 Hang in there people! Glossary: Artsy-Fartsy - I am officially dubbing this a new decorator style! If grandmillenial can be a style, I say artsy-fartsy can be a style too! I think it is going to kind of be an "I'm going to try a little too hard to make this a "style" style. Think of it like, fancy paintings, meet thrift store crap, meets world traveler (what?), meets hoarder. You're welcome! Sig - is short for significant other. In our family we use this term when talking about a boy/girl friend or spouse. Example: "Hey is your sig coming with to the party?"

Our mom was a junker.... We are junkers too. We like "Good Stuff" like old tablecloths, pretty plates, things with snarky sayings, painted furniture, and pretty much anything with a story to tell. This is our story, or what we like to call "Our Tale." You can find even more stories here on these blog pages about "re" design ideas I try, and all the mistakes I make along the way! Categories
