2021... It's about HOPE.
I think we are all hoping things will get better in 2021. (Even though things continue to be unsettled.) But there is something about change that brings with it a hope for something better. No matter what that change is or how you feel about it, good, bad, neutral... We do find ourselves saying things like, “Well at least this…” or “One good thing might be…” and my mom’s favorite… “It could be worse…”
Well, I find myself saying things like that anyway.
 
And no doubt when I look back on 2020, I have much to be thankful for... but it is still hard not to complain sometimes. My most adorable grand-baby turned one years old. I started a new job working for the state of MN, which is something I said I wanted for a long time. I sold my home in small town USA and moved to the city. My sister and I celebrated our 1-year anniversary for the Reincarnated Rabbit, (which for any business less than a year old open during COVID has to be a miracle) and my son and his fiancé got married. So yes! There was much to be happy about in 2020! For me anyway…

I know not everyone has as much to be thankful for during 2020. I wish that were not the case. So whenever I start feeling sorry for myself, for whatever reason, I quickly try to remind myself, “it could be worse,” and there are others who are dealing with real hardships… and I kind of slap myself out of it… the wallowing… because it is true and I know it. But sometimes it is HARD!
 
This STUFF is HARD. All the STUFF that goes along with things like pandemics, and social unrest, and political (oh I don’t know…) shit! It is HARD stuff. And right now, it doesn’t seem like there is much that is going to make it better. Except maybe some HOPE. Hope that comes with change.

I hope that as things change with COVID we will start to see some light at the end of the COVID tunnel. I hope that we all hang on to the good things we learned from COVID and re-appreciate the things we took for granted that COVID had to remind us about. Like slow down, spend time together, cook food, do a puzzle, read, make something, go outside. These are all such good things. Let’s not forget about them again.
 
I hope that the quests for equality and social justice continue to gain momentum, and I hope life changing things are done to tackle age-old problems we have been ignoring for a long time. I hope that we all will think deeply about these issues and strive to understand the perspectives of others, even those we do not always see eye-to-eye with on everything. If we only learn one thing from 2020 let it be that we need each other to do life.
 
I hope that we see changes with all the political shit that has been going down and it means we all have a chance to take a step back, think before we act, and really explore where we have things in common rather than continuing to look for the differences. It is in those things in common that will help us find hope for a better future. And I really think if we get down to it, we probably have more in common than we don’t.
 
I hope that we all find things in our everyday life that bring us hope and joy! Maybe something simple like a sunny day, or maybe a trinket you find on a junking adventure!
